Dir. Spike Jonze, USA, 2013, 126 min.

Reception at 5:30pm / Screening at 6pm, followed by panel discussion

The Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy of the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine will host its second annual Bioethics Film Festival, "Almost Human?" April 4–6, 2017.

The screening of Her will be preceded by a catered reception. Immediately following the screening the audience is invited to explore responses to “almost human?” with Penn faculty and special guests at a panel discussion.

In Her, a lonely writer develops an unlikely relationship with an artificially intelligent operating system, OS1 ("It's not just an operating system, it's a consciousness"). Designed to meet his every need, he soon finds himself falling in love with his OS, and dealing with feelings of both great joy and doubt.

This year’s other films in the Penn Bioethics Film Fest are Avatar on April 4th and Ex Machina on April 6th.
