Director of Admissions and Resident Services


The Director of Admissions and Resident Services is responsible for admissions enrollment at International House Philadelphia and the daily operating functions of IHP’s Admissions and Resident Life department. The director’s primary focus will be maintaining high residential occupancy at International House and will play a key leadership role in creating a diverse and welcoming community for scholars from around the world. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and, as a member of IHP’s leadership team, will work closely with the President and CEO and senior staff to promote IHP’s mission of fostering international engagement and understanding.



Strategic Planning

·         Designs and executes a strategic plan annually for the admissions office that meets organizational goals and resident needs and responds to changes in the housing market

·         Works with CEO and COO on strategies to maximize space utilization across residential, commercial, and community uses at IHP


Marketing and Sales

·         Maintains a high occupancy in the house that includes a balance of short- and long-term residents

·         Updates messaging that conveys IHP’s unique selling points as a housing option of choice for international students

·         Works with the marketing department to develop ads, posters, social marketing, website updates, and flyers to promote and help lease IHP’s 379 apartments and rooms

·         Works with agencies, organizations and conferences to house individuals and groups and create contractual agreements with IHP

·         Works with local communities, institutions and strategic partners to recruit residents and to market the house at various seminars, fairs, and events



·         Supervises and supports operations of the Admissions and Resident Life department

·         Oversees billing, accounting, and financial processes for all residential accounts and payments

·         Maintains and shares key performance indicators, admissions, and demographic data including application, acceptance, occupancy and resident population information with staff and board of trustees

·         Meets with residents to discuss and respond to housing extension and break contract requests

·         Manages discrepancies and concerns regarding contract agreements, extensions, bill charges, and other administrative issues


Resident Life

·         Works with Associate Director of Resident Life to develop and implement strategies that create a resident community at IHP that promotes acceptance, exploration, and a commitment to diversity and learning

·         Works with IHP staff including housekeeping, maintenance, and programs staff to ensure quality provision of services to residents

·         Assists the Associate Director of Resident Life and admissions staff in the development and evaluation of cultural, educational, social, and orientation programs and support services for IHP residents

·         In conjunction with the Associate Director of Resident Life, supports Resident Advisors in their engagement with IHP’s diverse student population

·         Acts as a liaison between IHP staff and residents and as an advocate for residents’ needs

·         Oversees disciplinary processes regarding resident conflicts and violations of house rules and policies in coordination with the Associate Director of Resident Life

·         Coordinates responses to emergency situations for residents in conjunction with the COO and other key staff



·         Bachelor’s degree plus five years related work experience; master’s degree with a combination of business and/or higher education experience preferred

·         Experience developing and implementing marketing strategies and increasing sales

·         Experience working in organizations with international students and/or student housing preferred

·         Experience administering a housing/sales database preferred (IHP uses StarRez)

·         Experience developing and administering budgets and financial oversight

·         A strong commitment to high-quality work and attention to detail 

·         Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

·         Ability to multitask and prioritize efficiently

·         Ability to work independently and as part of a team

·         Ability to work collaboratively with staff, board of trustees, and a broad range of external stakeholders

·         Ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality around sensitive resident life issues
