There are many ways you can support International House’s mission to promote mutual tolerance and respect for diversity.
Membership
As an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, your membership provides critical support to our mission as an institution dedicated to promoting dynamic cultural exchange and international arts.

Annual Support
Outright cash contributions are the simplest to make, and enable International House to take advantage of immediate opportunities.
Under present tax law, gifts of cash are deductible for the full amount of the gift, unless they exceed 50 percent of your adjusted income. In this case, you may not deduct the full amount in a single year. The excess can be carried forward for up to five more years.

Gifts of Stock
Many donors prefer to fund their contributions through gifts of appreciated securities.
Gifts of appreciated securities, which you have owned for at least six months, may be deducted for the full fair market value at the time of the gift. This deduction can be claimed provided it does not exceed 30 percent of your adjusted gross income, with a five-year carryover for any excess. No capital gains tax is levied on the appreciation.
Bequests and Planned Giving
Unlike annual gifts that are made from current income, planned gifts are usually made from capital assets.
In general, planned gifts – legally committed to International House during the donor’s lifetime — are those in which you retain some personal interest, such as the right to use the property or to receive income from the gift. Planned gifts cannot be put to use by International House until some time later, usually after the death of the name benefactors
International House encourages these gifts because they provide an endowment for the future. You may find that you are in a position to make a larger gift by careful selection of the most appropriate form of contribution. For example, by reserving the right to receive income from a gift, it is possible to protect an estate and provide for family members. A charitable deduction is allowed for part of the value of the assets transferred.
Older friends and alumni may prefer the planned gift or they may choose to combine a planned with an outright contribution. The most suitable kind of gift depends on the donor’s circumstances. International House will be pleased to provide any assistance you or your financial advisers require in determining how to maximize the impact of your generosity.
