Paolo Sorrentino | 2015 | 118 min - in English

80-year old Fred (Michael Caine) is a retired composer and conductor; Mick (Harvey Keitel) is a working director and his longtime friend. The two are spending a holiday in a stylish hotel at the foot of the Italian Alps, as they both feel that their time is rapidly running out. Fred and Mick decide to face their future together, watching with curiosity and tenderness the tangled lives of their children and the enthusiasm of Mick’s young writers, as well as that of other guests. Mick endeavors to complete the screenplay of what he imagines will be his last major film and Fred, who has no intention of returning to his musical career, is unexpectedly offered to return to the podium and direct a major concert.

The Cinema Studies Program and the Center for Italian Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy in Philadelphia and the International House of Philadelphia, present the 2015 edition of NEW ITALIAN CINEMA. The festival has been curated by Nicola M. Gentili (Penn, Cinema Studies) and aims at promoting Italian Cinema abroad with very recent released feature films.
