Marco Pontecorvo | 2015 | 95 min - with English subtitles

In a village in the province of Pesaro, Ermanno (Lillo) and Giacomo (Luca Zingaretti) jointly manage a cooperative (in crisis). Their friendship is severely shaken by the discovery of a source of oil in their company’s courtyard. The lure of easy wealth and the arrival of consultant Lombelli (John Turturro) break the balance within the village and open up a gap in the armor of awkward accountant Paola (Carolina Crescentini), on whom Lillo’s teenage son (Andrea Arcangeli) has a crush on. While featuring a series of exhilarating sketches, this story also explicitly references the tragic death of Enrico Mattei.

The Cinema Studies Program and the Center for Italian Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy in Philadelphia and the International House of Philadelphia, present the 2015 edition of NEW ITALIAN CINEMA. The festival has been curated by Nicola M. Gentili (Penn, Cinema Studies) and aims at promoting Italian Cinema abroad with very recent released feature films.
