dir. Atom Egoyan, USA, 2015, 95 mins.

A complex and riveting edge-of-your-seat thriller, director Atom Egoyan’s Remember is the story of two elderly Holocaust survivors, Zev (Academy Award winner Christopher Plummer) and Max (Academy Award winner Martin Landau), determined to get revenge on Rudy Kolander, the sadistic guard who tormented them at Auschwitz. Even as 90-year-old Zev’s memory begins to fail, his wheelchair-bound friend, Max, reminds him of their plans to achieve justice in the form of a meticulous set of instructions he’s prepared for Zev’s journey. As Zev embarks on an astonishing North American road trip in search of Kolander, Remember becomes an intense and powerful meditation on guilt, victimhood, and revenge, with an explosive ending that viewers will remember long after leaving the theater.

“Egoyan parcels out the story carefully, building tension to an explosive climax. The thrills come with the search, but Remember’s main buzz comes from Plummer’s heartfelt and assured performance as a man struggling to reconcile the past with the present.” – Richard Crouse/ Canada AM
