Revenge of the Green Dragons
dirs. Andrew Lau, Andrew Loo, USA, 2013, 94 min.
Martin Scorsese executive-produced this action-packed crime film about the Asian-American gangs who fought for supremacy on the mean streets of New York in the 1980s and "90s.
Co-directed by filmmakers Andrew Loo and Andrew Lau, who previously made the acclaimed Infernal Affairs trilogy (the first film of which Scorsese remade asThe Departed), Revenge of the Green Dragons tells a classic American tale " the rise and fall of a gangster " with a distinctly Hong Kong flair. After being smuggled into the country under dire circumstances, 10-year-old Sonny is lost and alone until he meets Steven, a classmate who offers to help. Together, the boys attract the attention of the Green Dragons, the gang that controls the local Chinese underworld, running everything from drugs to prostitution to illegal mah jong parlors. Flash-forward 10 years: Sonny and Steven are now both lieutenants in the Green Dragons, but with very different approaches. Sonny is more calm and levelheaded, while Steven tends to shoot first, and then shoot some more. When a gangland double cross threatens to light their whole world on fire, the two friends must decide where their loyalties truly lie in this visually striking, high-octane thriller.
