This double feature documentary program examines the colonial legacy of mass transportation in the unlikely pairing of India and the Philippines.

Horn Please
dirs. Shantanu Suman and Istling Mirche, India, 2013, 32 min.

Horn Please encapsulates various aspects of Indian Truck Art. With a kaleidoscope of bright paints, motifs, typography and unique phrasing, these Indian trucks take you on a colorful journey as diverse as the many cultures and beliefs of the country.

Jeepney
dir. Esy Casey, Philippines (USA), 2013, 60 min.

Jeepney visualizes the richly diverse cultural and social climate of the Philippines through its most popular form of mass transportation: vividly decorated ex-WWII military jeeps. Unlike mass transportation in many parts of the world, jeepneys are not a government service but are individually operated by the drivers, who manifest their identity, values, and dreams in their painting and decoration. Watch as stories of jeepney drivers, artists, and passengers unfold amidst nationwide protests against oil price hikes that threaten to end their way of life. Lavishly shot and cut to the rhythm of the streets, Jeepney provides an enticing vehicle through which the rippling effects of globalization can be felt.
