New Italian Cinema 2017
Il padre d'Italia (There is a Light)
Dir. Fabio Mollo, 2017
Isabella Ragonese (Mia) and Luca Marinelli (Paolo) star in a subtle and introspective on-the-road movie in the respective roles of a pregnant back-up singer who doesn’t want children and a gay man who dreams of becoming a father. Both young and both self-doubting in front of life’s responsibilities, they set off on a geographical and emotional journey, from the North to the South of Italy, in a relationship that will unearth their vital drive to exist.
The Cinema and Media Studies Program and the Center for Italian Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy in Philadelphia and PI-Philly Italian Professionals in Philadelphia, present the 2017 edition of NEW ITALIAN CINEMA. The festival has been curated by Nicola M. Gentili (Penn, Cinema and Media Studies) and aims at showing very recent Italian released feature films in Philadelphia. Films are introduced and discussed with our Penn Italian Ph.D. candidates. This free admission film festival is made possible thanks to the support of New Italian Cinema Events.
All movies presented in Italian with English subtitles.
