Nanni Moretti | 2015 | 106 min - with English subtitles

Margherita (Margherita Buy) is an accomplished film director experiencing a creative crisis because of the film she is making on the current job market and because of the lead’s whims, an eccentric American actor (John Turturro). In addition, she is also concerned about her teenage daughter and about her mother terminally ill, assisted by Margherita and her brother Giovanni (Nanni Moretti). The two siblings face such difficult pain differently: Margherita tries to overcome all suffering by overlapping dream, reality and memories, while Giovanni, forgetting about his job, won’t detach from his mother; he acts as if he wanted to passively let himself go to the inevitable pain.

The Cinema Studies Program and the Center for Italian Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy in Philadelphia and the International House of Philadelphia, present the 2015 edition of NEW ITALIAN CINEMA. The festival has been curated by Nicola M. Gentili (Penn, Cinema Studies) and aims at promoting Italian Cinema abroad with very recent released feature films.
