L.A Rebellion x2: Burnett and Woodberry Digital Restorations
Killer of Sheep
Dir. Charles Burnett, US, 1977, DCP, 80 min., b/w
40th Anniversary Screening / New Restoration
Combining incredibly lyrical elements with a starkly neo-realist approach, Killer of Sheep chronicles the daily routine of Stan, a sensitive dreamer who is growing detached and numb from the psychic toll of working at a slaughterhouse. Shot in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Watts on a tiny budget, Charles Burnett’s film has since been lauded as a landmark of American cinema. Killer of Sheep was one of the first 50 films to be selected for the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry and was chosen by the National Society of Film Critics as one of the 100 Essential Films.
