POD Restaurant - 3636 Sansom Street, Philadelphia

International House Philadelphia and the Board of Delegates invite you to attend a Japanese Fusion themed evening of "Culture + Cuisine" at POD restaurant (3636 Sansom Street, Philadelphia), where high style meets super-chic Asian fusion for a thrilling sensory experience.

We'll dine on POD's acclaimed Contemporary Pan Asian Cuisine while enjoying a fascinating presentation on Japanese woodblock prints and Yokai - monsters from Japanese folklore - by our special guest speaker, Matthew Meyer of the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia.  Matthew is the author and illustrator of "The Night Parade of One Hundred Demons: a Field Guide to Japanese Yokai", a massive pictorial bestiary choc full of some of the zaniest and wildest creatures ever imagined, from the mists of Japanese prehistory up through today. We'll learn all about the strange mythical beasts seen at temples and shrines, on beer can labels, and even on Japanese money, meeting the predecessors to Pokemon, Power Rangers, scary J-horror girls, and all of the strange creatures that pop up in Japanese video games, anime, and even Godzilla movies.

Our menu will include:

Chicken Pot Stickers / Mustard Aioli
California Rolls & Vegetable Maki
House Salad / Ginger Dressing

Vegetable Pad Thai
Chicken Lettuce Wraps / Thai Peanut Sauce
Sesame Crusted Tuna
Wasabi Vegetable Rice

A Tasting Selection from POD's Pastry Chef

There will be a cash bar as well. The price of $45 per person ($40 for IHP Members) includes the presentation, food, tax and gratuity (sodas and alcoholic beverages not included).

Even if you are unable to attend, please consider sponsoring one of our residents for $40 to enable them to join us!  As you know, many of our students are on very tight budgets and would otherwise be unable to take advantage of this cultural opportunity. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!
