Either Way (Á annan veg)
dir. Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson, Iceland, 2011, HD, 84 min.
TONIGHT'S SCREENING WILL TAKE PLACE AS SCHEDULED, DESPITE THE SNOW.
Filmmaker Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson will be in attendance to introduce the film.
Either Way is a subtle and playful dramatic comedy. In the remote north of Iceland in the mid-1980s, Finn and Alfred, two employees of the Icelandic Road Administration, spend the summer painting lines on the winding roads that stretch out to the horizon. With no-one but each other for company, the barren wilderness becomes a place of adventure, disaster and discovery as both men find themselves at a crossroads in their lives.
dir. David Kessler, US/Iceland, 2013, HD, 15 min.
Lopapeysa, a short film by David Scott Kessler merges travel log with surreal fantasy. Primarily shot during a one month artist residency in Iceland last winter, the film explores the mindset of a traveler guided by a longing to fully experience an unknown place - led by his own preconceived ideas and the landscape’s ubiquitous influence. Often eschewing facts and authenticity, the film seeks to preserve the wonder of first exploration, a naive beauty difficult to recapture and often lost to familiarity.
Lopapeysa features an original score by Mary
Lattimore and Benjamin Warfield.
Presented in conjunction with the exhibition, Due North at the Icebox Project Space, on view from January 9-26th, 2014. (www.duenorth2014.com)
