IHP and the Board of Delegates invite you for an evening of
Culture & Cuisine, to meet and share a meal of Middle Eastern and African
dishes with IHP residents and friends from around the world.
We will enjoy a
delicious dinner and hookah on IHP’s outdoor patio as we honor the first ever
International Refugee Olympic Team, composed of 10 refugee athletes from Africa
and the Middle East. Their competitive presence at the Summer 2016
Olympics in Rio is to draw global attention to the refugee crisis and act as a
symbol of hope for refugees worldwide.
Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture will teach you how to write your
name in Arabic or will write it for you and provide you with art supplies to
decorate the writing.
Remarks will be by Christiaan Morssink, PhD, Executive Director of the United Nations Association of Greater Philadelphia as well as Olympian David Jessen. Dual citizen David Jessen was born in the Czech Republic, but lived his whole life in the United States. At a very young age, David began doing gymnastics, with the guide of his parents. Today, he is on the senior national team for the Czech Republic, and will be representing them in the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Come celebrate this international fusion with us by sharing some of the culture and cuisine native to the regions of the first International Refugee Olympic Team.
